Facebook launches video chat

It seems Periscope isn’t the only social app to make use of video content. Facebook announced on Monday that their new update for Facebook Messenger will include video chat.

The update will first be rolled out in countries such as the UK, France, US and with more to come over the following few months. Like Periscope or Face-time, the popular I phone video chat, you will need a steady 3G or Wi-Fi connection.

In the past many people have complained about Facebook housing messenger in a separate app but this is due primarily to people using Facebook differently in various countries. In the US for example, teens use Facebook mainly as a platform to chat to their friends rather than look at their friend’s status updates.

Video chat seems to be the way forward in 2015 and Facebook seems to have jumped on this bandwagon just in time. Stan Chudnovsky, Facebook Messenger’s Head of Product, explained it was a no-brainer. Let’s hope it hits SA soon!
